Amongst the sunbathers, ice cream trucks, and beach volleyball courts is an opportunity to get to know Crescent Beach from a totally new perspective this summer: from the water! There’s no better way to see how the beach got its name than to see it’s shoreline from the water atop a paddleboard. There are many ways to get out on the water; you can survey by sail boat, or traverse on a kayak, but a paddleboard is by far the most serene way to feel the sea breeze, and may we add, it’s a great little work out, too! Get a little exercise, be one with your thoughts, and get up close and personal with waterfowl. The waters in the bay are a great spot for newcomers to the activity to get their feet wet and practice balancing on the relatively calm waters. Expert paddle boarders can enjoy the tide flowing in and out, if you’re lucky, you could evens see a harbour seal, who tend to post up from time to time on the shores of Blackie Spit.
Chances are you’ve come across the Beach Shack at Blackie Spit. This small but mighty structure is home to the Sea to Sky Adventure Company, who opened up on May 21 for the summer to provide Stand Up Paddle boards and lessons to lovers of Surrey’s beautiful scenery. You can even secure your rentals from the Surrey Visitor Centre if you’re one who like a plan of attack for their adventure.
